Where we come from
Debi Sommars, founder and CEO of Sommars Ovens, started her company in 2002. As many artisan food companies, Debi’s was launched out of a frustration for not finding the kind of foods she craved in her local grocery store.
You see, Debi is wheat and dairy intolerant. She has struggled with food choices for most of her life. Out of necessity and love for great cuisine, Debi became an excellent cook. She is always experimenting with different ingredients, spices and cooking techniques to come up with fare that not only helps her live comfortably with her food allergies but also allows her to truly enjoy all that nature’s bounty has to offer.
For over a year Debi spent long hours researching manufacturing techniques, developing a list of suppliers of organic ingredients, and understanding packaging and distribution. She made a commitment to herself and her future customers that she would only produce a product if it met her high standards for purity and taste and would promote sustainable farming techniques.
She also wanted to educate people about the growing need for foods that are wheat-free and dairy-free. The number of people in the world with these two food challenges grows every year. Debi is passionate about letting people know that you don’t have to settle for foods that taste like cardboard and school paste anymore. You have choices!
